'Warrior' off to Lionsgate

Lionsgate has picked up U.S. distribdistrib rights to helmer Victor SalvaVictor Salva's "Peaceful Warrior," based on Dan Millman's bestselling inspirational novel, from Mark AminMark Amin's Sobini FilmsSobini Films.

Sobini, which has a first-lookfirst-look deal with Lionsgate, re-acquired the rights from Blockbuster after the homevid company sold off DEJ Prods., Sobini's partner on "Warrior."

Lionsgate has skedded a June 2 release date. Inferno Distribution holds international rights.

Pic, a passion project of Amin's, stars Scott Mechlowicz, Nick Nolte and Amy SmartAmy Smart. Story revolves around a handsome college gymnast who embarks on a spiritual journey when he meets an older man with a distinct philosophy.

Screenwriter Kevin Bernhardt adapted the book.

"We are pleased to again be in control of a film which has been a labor of love for me over the years," Amin said.

Along with Amin, producers are Sobini's Cami Winikoff, Robin Schorr and David Welch.

Lionsgate prexyprexy of theatrical films Tom Ortenberg said his company "recognizes the significance of the underserved audience that the film speaks to," and that the studio's experience in targeted marketing made "Warrior" a good fit.
